  • Alicia Garcia

Alicia Garcia, Iñuŋŋuaŋuluraq (Little Doll) is granddaughter of Peter Takak Jr of Unalakleet and Emma Moses of Nome, Alaska. She is Iñupiaq tribal member of Native Village of Unalakleet &  Apache-Mexican/American descendant of the Yaqui Tribe of Sonora Mexico. Alicia was raised in Den'ina Ełnena, Wasilla Alaska and is from East Anchorage Alaska. In the past three years, she has worked as an Administrative assistant with Cook Inlet Tribal Council in the Financial Assistance Department serving the public of Alaska Natives and American Indians’ of the CIRI Region. Additionally in August 2024, she completed a three year term on the Youth Advisory Council of CITC. Her hobbies consist of learning other cultures and languages, beading and practicing traditional dances that represent her heritage.

I grew up on the North Slope, where I was immersed in a vibrant Iñupiat culture. Unfortunately, my parents passed away when I was 12, and I was adopted into a non-Alaskan native family in Kenai, Alaska. This transition brought challenges, including culture shock and adapting to a different lifestyle. Growing up away from my village was difficult, especially with the absence of traditional values.

Today, I am passionate about empowering Alaska Natives to stand firm in their traditional beliefs. To stay deeply connected to my culture, I actively participate in tribal gatherings, provide fish and berries to elders, and continually learn from the diverse regional tribes across Alaska.
